Robert Field has been drawing for as long as he can remember. Born in New York City in 1961 his illustration career spans more than 20 years. At a very early age he grew accustomed to hearing complimentary "Ooohs" and "Ahhs" from family and friends for his childhood "masterpieces" - which in turn encouraged him to keep drawing.

In elementary school he relied on these artistic abilities to ward off bullies by sketching his favorite cartoon characters (such as Bugs Bunny, the Roadrunner, and Yosemite Sam) for elementary school peers, and later drawing caricatures of particularly odious teachers on loose leaf paper for his high school classmates.

His affinity for caricature began in his pre-teenage years upon his discovery of MAD magazine illustrators Jack Davis and Mort Drucker, as well as sports cartoonist Bruce Stark of the NY Daily News. As an undergrad in college he was introduced to the work of Thomas Nast and Norman Rockwell, and to that of the Dutch Masters, Vermeer and Rembrandt.

Later as a graduate student he discovered the rich history of early European and American caricature ranging from Honore Daumier to Willard Mullin. In addition, the renderings of Ingres, and 19th Century American genre-painter, Eastman Johnson have contributed to the development of his own drawing style.

Since turning pro - his work has appeared in numerous publications and gallery exhibitions. He has also taught illustration and graphic design at several colleges including: Nassau Community College, Long Island University, New Jersey City University, and Briarcliffe College.

He is a graduate of Long Island University/ C.W. Post Campus, earned a Master's degree from Syracuse University, and is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators. He lives on Long Island with his wife and son, and is a diehard New York Rangers hockey fan.
